The Wakefield Warriors (3-4) defeated the host Westfield Bulldogs, 51-39, in non-district girls high-school basketball action Dec. 19.
Wakefield began strong in the game, taking a 6-0 lead on two three-pointers by Lucy Strawn. Harris added four points in the early going and Ryan Seeley made a three-pointer as the Warriors led 22-9 at halftime.
Westfield cut the lead to 33-29 in the third quarter, but got no closer. Dominique Harris led the Warriors' defense with 10 steals.
The victory snapped a four-game losing streak, and the 51 points were a single-game, season high so far for Wakefield.
In other recent basketball action:
* The Washington-Liberty Generals girls team (4-4) lost to the defending 6D North Region champion Centreville Wildcats, 58-47, Dec. 18.
Washington-Liberty won its previous game, 60-21, over the Herndon Hornets, in its first Liberty District game this season.
The Generals will play three games Dec. 26-28 at a holiday tournament at Lightridge High School in Aldie. W-L faces Clarke County at 3 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 26) in the first round.
* In boys basketball action, the Washington-Liberty Generals (3-6) lost a late four-point lead of 48-44 in a 51-48 loss to the Centreville Wildcats in their final game before the winter break.
A couple of turnovers hurt the Generals in the final going.
Sean Allen gave W-L a 48-44 lead with 2:45 to play on back-to-back driving layups. Centreville's 7-0 game-ending run began with a three-pointer, followed by a steal and a layup, then two foul shots to close out the scoring.
* W-L routed the Herndon Hornets, 82-55, in its previous game, as Allen was a leading scorer and blocked a couple of shots. The game was the Generals' first Liberty District contest of the season.
Next for the W-L boys is the George Long Holiday Tournament at Wakefield High School Dec. 26-28. The Generals play the first game of the competition at 1 p.m. Dec. 26 against the Potomac Senior Panthers of Prince William County.
