LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -The holiday season brings gifts and lights, but also dreaded traffic and a higher risk of car accidents.
Based on a predictive analysis of Nationwide claims data, Dec. 23rd is expected to be the most dangerous day to drive this month.
That's why just a few days away from Christmas, mother and daughter duo, Sarah Jane Brown and Lily Brown are planning when they travel from home to beat traffic, even for a short shopping trip.
"I usually either try to go out like at the very beginning when the shops open or kind of toward the end," Sarah Jane said. "Hopefully by then, people have already come, gone out and had lunch and shopped."
It's not just on the road where you can experience the extra traffic delay this holiday season. Many flights like Fabiola Cadenas are taking longer due to extra layovers.
"I remember for summer, I only took one flight from here to Atlanta and then from Atlanta to Santiago and that's it," Cadenas said. "This time the only way that I was able to get by home during the holidays was from here to Chicago and then from Chicago to Houston and then Houston to Santiago."
She said that the additional layover is adding nearly an entire day to her journey back to her home country of Chile.
For domestic flights, travelers WKYT spoke with said they haven't experienced any issues.
"My trip was very smooth," Yazmin Hauke, a passenger to Nebraska said. "I had no trouble with any delays or any inconveniences."
