BELLEVILLE, Ill. - An Illinois man remains in custody after breaking into an ex-girlfriend's home and attacking her, and later fought with police as they tried to arrest him.
According to a statement from the Fairview Heights Police Department, officers responded to a disturbance call on Dec. 14 at a nearby apartment complex on Phillips Drive.
Officers learned Joshua A. Burrow, 33, had tried contacting a former acquaintance despite her insistence that he stop reaching out to her.
Police said Burrow forced his way into the woman's apartment and struck her in the face several times.
Burrow allegedly pulled away, kicked at, and threatened officers attempting to take him into custody. While at St. Clair County Jail, Burrow again resisted officers.
No officers were seriously injured in either incident.
The St. Clair County State's Attorney's Office charged Burrow with home invasion, battery, and two counts of aggravated battery of a peace officer.
